Increasingly climate change impacts have called into question the success and sustainability of development practices. Yet in theory, development efforts share many of the goals of climate change adaptation and mitigation. Scholars and practitioners in both areas have recognized a need for more collaboration across these two fields, to address the critical challenge of integrating development planning and climate action in ways that promote positive synergies and avoid past failures.
This workshop engages with critiques of both development and responses to climate change, to understand how the awareness of climate change causes, impacts and inequities transforms development theories and practices. Keynote lectures by Dr. Hallie Eakin (School of Sustainability, Arizona State University) and Dr. Ashwini Chhatre (Department of Geography, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign).
